Help Save Our Treasured Open Spaces!

This toad pond is at risk!

Dear PWP Readers,

Please help us save Poway’s Meadowbrook Ecological Reserve and its seasonal wetlands, vital for the survival of endangered wildlife!

Preserve Wild Poway (PWP) is following the quick progress of two housing development projects bordering the Meadowbrook Ecological Reserve on Van Dam Peak. These two projects will destroy nearly forty acres of Poway’s beautiful natural open space.  Both endangered habitat areas support broad and diverse wildlife.  One proposed project is the ten-acre Rimbach Road Subdivision, and the other is the twenty-six acre Meadowbrook Lane Subdivision. The later will result in the complete destruction of a seasonal toad pond and creek, vital to a large population of the rare Western Spadefoot Toad and other endangered species. These two open spaces also allow residents peace and solitude, away from noise and the bustle of the city. Nature has proven to lower blood pressure and benefit our overall well-being.

Saving as much of these natural spaces as possible is a requirement of Poway’s Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP). However, developers have other plans.

PWP plans to hire professionals with expertise in conservation of natural areas and habitat to fulfill our goal to preserve and protect Poway’s wildlife habitat. Our goal here is to preserve a large portion of the natural spaces planned for these two housing developments.  Poway’s Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) allows for adequate housing, while saving important biologically rich areas for natural spaces.  PWP intends to push for the fulfillment of Poway’s Habitat Conservation Plan. Improper deviations from the HCP in recent projects have damaged much of Poway’s endangered habitat.

Please help preserve and protect our wildlife by donating at https://preservewildpoway.org. This will ensure Poway’s HCP will be followed, and our endangered habitat is preserved. Any amount will be helpful.   PWP is a registered non-profit organization with 100% of its proceeds going directly to the preservation of Poway’s wildlife.

We are seeking volunteers to help spread the word about Preserve Wild Poway and the needed funds for imminent action against the unnecessary destruction of habitat. If you would like to help, please send us an email with your name and phone number to contact@preservewildpoway.org. We look forward to working with you.

Thank you.
