West Ridge Trail at Bernardo Winery

May 12

8:45 AM

Meet at the restrooms near the SOUTH end parking lot of Bernardo Winery.

Approximate location in Google maps

About the Hike:

From the Bernardo Winery we walk a short distance to the trailhead, then head south. The round trip is about 3.5 miles and takes us though urban areas in north Poway as we head south toward Espola road. The trail is mostly exposed – maybe about 10% shade. The trail is also mostly flat – there are a few steep places, but they are short and lead to a nice view of Rancho Bernardo. We start at the Winery, as it is a good place to park, and folks can stay for lunch at the end of the hike.

Where to meet and how to get there:

We will meet at the Bernardo Winery at 8:45 by the restrooms near the SOUTH END PARKING LOT of the winery (see insert above) Approximate location in Google maps.  There are TWO SEPARATE, NOT CONNECTED parking lots. The two parking lots are approached from different parts of town, and you can’t drive from one lot to the other. The official address for the winery is 13330 Paseo Del Verano Norte, San Diego 92128 (Ranch Bernardo). A map application will take you to the north parking lot if you use that address, via Pomerado road and Paseo Del Verano. In the map below, the red and orange paths take you to the north parking lot. The south lot can be reached via the blue path, and is quicker for folks living in the eastern part of Poway.

No matter which lot you park in, it is a short walk to the restroom at the south end of the winery.

Directions:

Red path from RB, Orange from West Poway, Blue from East Poway via Valle Verde Road.

Trail Map:

The red path on the map below is the hike we will be taking.  While a loop is possible, it is a bit long so we will return the way we came.

 Weather:

Sunny with a high near 75.

Restrooms:

There are restrooms in the winery.
