Preserve Wild Poway’s Newsletter
December 2024
Dear Friends of Preserve Wild Poway,
It’s hard to believe Preserve Wild Poway’s second year is already coming to an end. We had some significant accomplishments in 2024. We:
Worked with residents to form the Boulder Mountain Land Trust for land acquisition on the Northside of Twin Peaks Mountain.
Submitted our first land grant to Supervisor Joel Anderson’s Neighborhood Reinvestment Program to help with open space land acquisition.
Adopted-a-Highway in Rancho Bernardo on the 15 freeway and conducted public hikes to visit our beautiful preserves.
Published the educational children's book “Toby the Spadefoot of Meadowbrook Pond” written and illustrated by Jessie Boeller.
Here are a few of Preserve Wild Poway’s goals for 2025. We:
Will be writing our five-year strategic plan focusing on the protection of natural spaces and wildlife corridors.
Are creating the Preserve Wild Poway’s Land Steward Program- a volunteer program for monitoring preserves. We will be working with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and volunteers to ensure our open space and wildlife are monitored and protected (a special thanks to Escondido Creek Conservancy for their help and guidance)
Will start public speaking engagements to educate residents about habitat loss.
We want to thank so many of you who have volunteered or donated this year to support our mission to preserve Poway’s open space.
A very special thanks to-
Our dedicated volunteers for their talents, time, energy, ideas, and enthusiasm
Environmental organizations who took us under their wing
The experts in the field of ecology, and conservation: biologists, botanists, hydrologists, attorneys and state and federal environmental agencies for their expertise and guidance
Local artists and business owners for their talents and donations
Fellow residents, neighbors and landowners for their input, support and donations.
This wild rabbit “listened in” on one of our board meetings…..
Wishing you peace, joy and tranquility this holiday season,
Jeff Schmidt, Shari Dunbar and Lori Grennan
